چکیده

One hundred and seventy-one strains of anaerobes were tested for susceptibility to carbenicillin by using agar dilution, broth dilution, and two disk diffusion methods. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) for 67% of 51 strains of Bacteroides fragilis, 7 of 9 strains of Bacteroides melaninogenicus, and all of 8 strains of Eubacterium was 100 mug or less per ml. The MICs of the remaining anaerobes were 50 mug or less per ml. The broth dilution results were felt to be the most accurate of the four methods utilized.

Susceptibility of the anaerobic bacteria, group D streptococci, Enterobacteriaceae, and Pseudomonas to semisynthetic penicillins: carbenicillin, piperacillin, and ticarcillin.

Sodium piperacillin T-1220, a new semisynthetic penicillin, was tested in vitro against 297 clinical isolates of anaerobic bacteria and 669 aerobic bacteria by the conventional agar dilution method and compared with carbenicillin and ticarcillin. At a 100-mug/ml concentration the three drugs showed comparable effectiveness against the anaerobes tested. However, at 20 mug/ml, piperacillin was th...

Practical anaerobic broth-disk elution susceptibility test.

A modified broth-disk elution method for routine susceptibility testing of anaerobic bacteria was compared with the proposed reference agar dilution method under study by the National Committee on Clinical Laboratory Standards. The broth-disk elution method used a 24-h test incubation period, Schaedler broth medium supplemented with menadione, and GasPak (BBL Microbiology Systems) incubation. R...

Comparative susceptibility of anaerobic bacteria to ticarcillin, cefoxitin, metronidazole, and related antimicrobial agents.

The in vitro antimicrobial activity of two newer agents, ticarcillin and cefoxitin, against 204 recent clinical isolates of anaerobic bacteria was determined by an agar dilution technique, and compared to their related compounds carbenicillin, cephalothin, and penicillin, as well as metronidazole, clindamycin, and chloramphenicol. Ticarcillin was similar to carbenicillin, and cefoxitin was more...

Susceptibilities of anaerobic bacteria to cefoperazone and other antibiotics.

Two hundred fifty clinical isolates of anaerobic bacteria were tested for suceptibility to cefoperazone, cefamandole, cefoxitin, carbenicillin, clindamycin, and chloramphenicol. Anaerobic gram-positive cocci were susceptible to all of the antibiotics tested. Clindamycin was the most active agent against Bacteroides species, followed by chloramphenicol and then cefoxitin. Cefoperazone was less a...

Comparison of moxalactam (LY127935) and cefotaxime against anaerobic bacteria.

The in vitro activities of moxalactam (LY127935 [6059S]) and cefotaxime were compared with those of cefoxitin, cefamandole, cefuroxime, carbenicillin, and penicillin by agar dilution susceptibility testing of a variety of anaerobic bacteria. Moxalactam proved to be the most active agent tested against Bacteroides fragilis and other species of the B. fragilis group. Moxalactam and cefotaxime sho...
